Throughout his four decades in photography, Mick Rock, the so-called “man who shot the ‘70s,” snapped pictures of some of the greatest rock and roll musicians, including David Bowie and Queen. Still in the game after all these years, the photographer keeps his portfolio fresh by shooting contemporary musicians like Cee Lo Green and Janelle Monáe. A new exhibition of his work, “Rocked,” is currently on display at the W Downtown in New York.

Following his tradition of capturing portraits of the hottest musicians, the W commissioned Rock to photograph artists in its Symmetry Live concert series, which showcases emerging performers. Since 2008 Rock has been photographing acts like Green, Monáe, Ellie Goulding, and Theophilus London for the W.

The exhibition encompasses Rock’s newer photographs alongside several never-before-exhibited images of musicians like Madonna, Freddy Mercury, and Bono. Also included is a festive holiday portrait of Andy Warhol dressed in a Santa Claus suit with his friend Truman Capote.

Better head to the Living Room Bar & Terrace at the W Downtown fast, the show is only up through the end of December before it heads to other W Hotels across the United States. For those of you who aren’t in New York, check the images out in the above slide show.
