BASEL—Hildy Beyeler, who along with her husband Ernst accumulated a world-class art collection and established the Fondation Beyeler to house it, died on July 18. She was 86 and died in her home in Riehen, near Basel, Switzerland, from a long illness.

The Beyelers were art dealers who collected the likes of Picasso, Max Ernst, Francis Bacon, van Gogh, Kandinsky, and Monet. Their collection of about 200 works is housed in the Fondation Beyeler public museum, which opened in 1997 in a building designed by Renzo Piano. The two were also involved in the founding of Art Basel in the 1970s.
