September 13, 2008—January 18, 2009
This exhibit will depict how important European and American artists responded to the railroad from its beginning in the 1830s to the end of the Steam Age in 1960.
Art in the Age of Steam includes artists such as Claude Monet, Charles Sheeler and Thomas Hart Benton. This collection of works will show how the railroad dramatically changed everyday life and introduced the power of mass transportation into modern culture.
